This is a varied and interesting role for an experienced 2nd Line Support Engineer who enjoys getting out and about to meet customers and helping with project work, as well as providing IT support over the phone.

You will regularly be out onsite and talking to customers face to face, so you’ll be someone with great communication skills and able to adapt to different customers’ needs. You’ll also be the escalation point for any support issues that arise that the 1st Line team were unable to help with, responding to calls and emails as required. There is a designated 3rd Line team who deal with the large and complex projects, but you’ll definitely get your fair share of helping with different projects too.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing technical support at a 2nd Line level, and assisting the 1st and 3rd Line Engineers as requires

  • Completing technical tasks as part of new and ongoing IT projects for clients

  • Conducting ‘site surveys’ to scope out new work - taking photos and reporting your findings, and where possible proactively spotting opportunities where the company could assist with other issues

  • Researching and deploying infrastructure improvements

Skills and experience you’ll need as a 2nd Line IT Support Engineer:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in an IT Support role - ideally with experience of visiting customers onsite, but we’ll consider candidates who haven’t done this before but are keen to!

  • Able to work towards and achieve agreed SLA’s

  • Someone who works collaboratively and is happy to support other colleagues where required

  • Experience of the following

    • Microsoft Server Environments 2016/19, Microsoft Desktop Environements 8/10, Microsoft Office 365, Virtualisation Technologies (HyperV/VMware), Network Troubleshooting (DNS, DHCP, VPN, NAT), Network Diagnostics (routers/switches)

  • The following is desirable

    • Microsoft Azure, Linux, PowerShell scripting experience

    • Industry accreditations/certifications

Due to the nature of the role, candidates will need to have a valid driving license and live within a commutable distance of Plymouth.

The company offer some good company including 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, life insurance, free onsite parking, discounted gym memberships and paid overtime. They really invest in their employees - actively encouraging those who wish to complete qualifications or certifications. They are hoping the successful candidate will grow and progress with the business, so there are excellent progression opportunities available too.
