Last week our team enjoyed going along to The South West Business Expo that brings together many of the areas leading business owners and other organisations.
We had a great catch up with the team from Petroc College of Further & Higher Education who gave us a run through of some of the free online courses they offer. Things like this are great to have on your a CV to support your search for work. Demonstrating a keenness to learn is always a bonus.
They are distance learning courses that can fit around your existing commitments. They tend to be 16 weeks long. Here’s a summary of the ones that stood out to us. They will give you a ‘Certificate in’ the following areas:
It got us thinking about other resources that are available. Here are some that we’ve found:
Topics include digital such as marketing, web and social media analytics. Other subjects include ‘How to Succeed at Writing Applications’, ‘Growing as a Manager’ and ‘Empowerment in the Workplace’.
OpenLearn is part of The Open University and offers over 1000 free online courses. Topics in the Money and Business section include Conversations and Interviews, bookkeeping and accounting, marketing and project management.
Vision2Learn also offer a number of free online courses.
Learndirect offer a whole load of courses – many you have to pay for but there are also certificates that are free of charge. There’s a CMT centre (approved partner of learndirect) in Exeter where courses can be completed.
If you are already in work or run a business, BIP provide a number of skills workshops across Devon.
Eventbrite gives a good run through of local events and courses. Many are free of charge while others charge a small fee.
