      This is an exciting new role for a well established charity that provides opportunities for children from around the country. As Head of Finance, you’ll be working closely with the Chief Executive and have overall responsibility for the management and future development of the finance and corporate services functions.

      As a member of the Senior Management Team you’ll be instrumental in the leadership and direction of the charity as a whole. You’ll provide the wider team with expert financial information and advice and be happy to deputise for the Chief Executive on occasion.

      What will the role involve? 

      This role brings with it a broad remit to make sure that the charity maximises its financial performance as well as planning for the long term. A key part of that will involve making sure that the organisation meets its legal and regulatory requirements.

      In addition, the Head of Finance oversees the corporate services of the charity, supported by the relevant managers. They include human resources, governance and compliance, IT and facilities.

      You’ll provide leadership, direction and coaching for all of the teams, making sure they’re well supported, regardless of where they’re based.

      Finance responsibilities will include:

      • Production of high-quality financial reports for the CEO, Trustees, SMT, and wider budget holders. This will include annual budgets, monthly management accounts, quarterly reforecasts, and other relevant information as required
      • Leading the charity’s relationships with its auditors, managing the preparation of statutory accounts, and leading on the implementation of recommendations arising from the Audit process
      • Making sure all statutory returns are completed and meet the relevant deadlines
      • Providing financial reports, budgets, and activity analyses  to support  the preparation of fundraising bids and contract negotiations
      • Managing the charity’s investments, including establishing new funds, and making recommendations to the Board
      • Leading the charity’s finance and corporate-service related risk management, reviewing and managing the relevant sections of the risk register, and providing expert advice the CEO and Board.
      • Supervising the development and implementation of a robust procurement system
      • Reviewing, updating, and rolling out a new Finance Policy, including a finance procedures and controls manual
      • With other members of the SMT, establishing a system for managing and reporting on capital and restricted fund project expenditure
      • Introducing and monitoring an asset management system
      • Taking the lead on special projects, including preparing detailed financial models to help determine the charity’s strategic direction
      • Leading discussions and reporting on finance and corporate services at meetings of the Finance Committee and Board of Trustees.

      The head office is based in Exeter and it’s envisaged you’ll spend most of your time there. There are three other locations in the UK however and there will be some travel to these sites – however this won’t be significant.

      • An HR/legal/management/leadership/strategy qualification would be an added bonus
      • You’ll have at least 8 years’ post qualification experience in a finance/accounting role that’ll include 5 years’ experience in a senior strategic finance leadership
      • Practical experience of managing pensions, automatic enrolment, and payroll systems.
      • Experience of devising financial models and projections to inform strategic planning.
      • Proven track record of leading and inspiring teams to a high level of achievement and innovation.
      • Experience of improving financial management systems.
