There's no better time to join this growing company as they embark on a journey to transform their technology and digital capability. They’re heavily investing in improving their technology and expanding the team, and this Product Owner role is a new position created to support the next phase of transformation. Sound interesting? Then read on, this role could be perfect for you!

There are big plans to digitise the business by improving digital maturity across their people, processes, operation and systems - so whilst you’ll be technically-minded, it’s really important you can also talk to non-technical people as you’ll help to ensure any change adds value and increases efficiency. You’ll be helping to identify, scope, prioritise to deliver a portfolio of customer facing digital products which will help to improve customer experience.

You’ll have full end to end accountability for making and running the company’s customer-facing digital products, so the role will be an exciting mix of hands-on delivery, leading a team, project management, research and business acumen.

The role in a nutshell:

  • Recruit and lead a full stack development team to create and continuously develop customer facing digital products

  • Create, prioritise, and manage the product backlogs, ensuring customer benefit is delivered as quickly as possible

  • Ensuring features are built in the right way using data led processes of exploration, experimentation, prototyping to change fast and fail early

  • Conduct research, test prototypes and/or engage in pretotyping experiments to inform the product roadmap

  • Set up and manage agile development practices

  • Recruit and manage a UX/UI designer (and potentially others in the future) and ensure that design artefacts are created in a sustainable way

  • Work with stakeholders across the business to ensure the products created are understood and accepted

  • Manage existing vendors and source new ones to aid the delivery of initiatives

  • Act as point of escalation for serious faults and training

Skills and experience we’re looking for:

  • Previous experience as a Product Owner, ideally in a small team or startup

  • Practical experience with agile delivery methodologies (e.g. Kanban, Scrum)

  • Involvement in all aspects of project lifecycle

  • Previous experience using structured analysis methods

  • Vendor engagement and management experience

  • Good awareness of interaction design principles, UX design and graphic design - you’ll need to be able to provide constructive criticism and tell ‘good’ from ‘bad’

  • Working knowledge of one or more modern tech stacks (e.g. MERN/Microsoft/React)

  • Familiar with the use of analysis tools (e.g. Google Analytics, PowerBI)

  • Hands on experience is not required, however an understanding of any of the following would be highly beneficial: test driven development, test frameworks, Azure / Azure DevOps, hybrid app frameworks (React Native, Flutter etc)

You’ll be given the autonomy to define your working hours depending on your projects, so although the standard hours are Monday to Friday 9am - 5.30pm, these hours can be flexible.

Remote working will be considered, and there will be occasional travel to Berkshire, Devon and North Wales as part of the role, so a driving license is required and it would therefore be beneficial for the successful candidates to live near one of these locations.

In return you will have the scope and flexibility to do the right thing and make a real impact. There’s support for some experimentation and the opportunity to stretch and develop your career in a variety of directions that would not be possible in a ‘traditional' corporate technology role. There’s also an excellent benefits package including generous holiday allowance which increases with service, annual volunteering day, company discounts and perks, life cover, training and development opportunities and more.
