This is a brand-new role, where you’ll be managing the day to day running of a successful early year’s education setting. You’ll be taking over the reins from the owner, who’s about to focus on developing and launching another, complimentary, arm of the business.

Fundamentally we’re looking for someone who will (pardon the pun) view this organisation as ‘their baby’ and treat it like it’s your own. Business-wise the nursery is in a good place, with a great team, a good OFSTED rating, a high occupancy rate, good processes and structure in place. Whilst this will very much be yours to manage, the owners will still be on hand for support, particularly as you transition in to the role and to make sure there’s a smooth handover. And of course, you’ll be reporting in to them longer-term too.

Location-wise you’ll be based in the beautiful Devon countryside, north of Exeter. Making the most of the great outdoors, as a positive place to learn for children, sits at heart of this nursery’s approach. There’s lots of outdoor space, gardens and play areas to make the most of. You’ll be someone who shares this view and has a healthy respect for sustainability and the environment as well. They’re very much about creating lasting memories for the children and their families, while at the same time providing a positive environment that supports their development too.

Person-wise we’re looking for an inspirational leader who’s a natural ‘people person’, who shows they genuinely care. You’ll maintain the positive culture of the organisation, promoting its values and behaviours in everything you do. However, you’ll also be commercially-savvy, continually monitoring the commercial performance and driving improvements where possible to make sure the nursery remains the childcare provider of choice in the area. You’ll also continue to build on the excellent links the nursery has with its local community.

Longer-term there may be the possibility of further development within this organisation, as the business continues to grow.

Essential experience

  • Experience of working in an early year’s education setting with a good or better, regulatory inspection would be an advantage

  • Proven ability to lead and manage a high performing team
