We’re recruiting for an Applications Manager to manage the day to day running of the applications and business systems for a large, successful and growing company based in Exeter. It's a brand new role created to ensure that proposed solutions are robust and scalable, meet business objectives, and ensure continuity. It’s a brilliant opportunity to make a real positive impact business-wide, increasing effectiveness, efficiency and collaboration.

Working closely with the PMO and IT teams, you will combine business and technical knowledge to resolve business problems with cost-effective solutions. This could include prioritisation of business improvement programmes, or helping to create development processes which enable the entire development lifecycle to run more smoothly.

You'll have excellent people-skills, as you'll also be responsible for coaching and mentoring the team of 6 who will report in to you. This will include conducting 1-2-1's and daily team meetings. You'll need to be approachable and able to adapt your communication style to suit the different personalities in the team, spotting when someone is in need of support or encouragement.

Another really important aspect to this role is to be the conduit between the technical and business teams. One of his aims for this role is to encourage and enable cross functional teams working together more closely.

Main tasks and responsibilities as the Applications Manager:

  • Researching and implementing strategic technological solutions

  • Recommending, initiating, coordinating and enforcing IT systems, policies and procedures

  • Defining and delivering strategic plans to implement enterprise applications

  • Completing projects by coordinating resources and timetables of relevant internal teams

  • Verifying application results by conducting system audits of technologies implemented

  • Developing the team members skills through training and mentoring

Experience and skills required for the role:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working with business systems and application development lifecycle

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Someone with strong planning and organisation skills

  • Someone who can demonstrate good leadership skills or has prior experience in a leadership role

  • Working knowledge of SQL, SAP, web-based technologies and Delphi would be favourable, but not essential

The company are currently working from home due to Covid restrictions. Longer term when restrictions ease there will be some requirement for you to work from the office. You’ll therefore need to live within a commutable distance of Exeter.
